It makes me wonder if scenes like this actually exist, or are they constructions of our minds. Scenes like this feel to me like returning from a combat theater in the Middle East to American suburbia. Those who have done that will know what I mean. While I have made my share of images of the grand landscape, my landscapes mostly have been what Eliot Porter termed, the Intimate Landscape, that has attracted me. But I made this photograph recently, which could be considered a grand landscape, except it's not of a spectacular, iconic scene. It is a quiet, classic Idaho scene and I really like it.
